The Upstart is actually a rooster we call Green and Gold.
- Breed: Black Australorp cross
- Age: 7 months
- Comb: single
- Pecking order: Second from top
Green and Gold was from the only rooster we kept first batch of chicks we hatched out last summer. He was selected for his attractive green and gold plumage. He is likely a cross of a Black Australorp with either a Buff Orpington or a Red Sussex. As the oldest in our new generation of roosters, he is now challenging The Experienced Gentleman for top of the pecking order.
As the challenger in the pecking order, Green and Gold is a bit aggressive with the younger roosters and sometimes the hens as well.
Will Green and Gold turn a new feather and show a gentler side if we keep him on and he takes his place at the top of the pecking order? Does he deserve a chance? If only we had rooster confessionals where they could plead their case.
If you want to see this handsome, but rough fellow stay on at Stoneybrook, vote for him in the upcoming poll in the great Rooster Contest.
